Vickerstown 0, Garstang 0

GARSTANG had to thank keeper Simon Howell for a 24th minute penalty save and a fantastic double save in the 82nd minute to give the visitors another richly deserved point.

Manager Richard Thomas had to recall 39-year-old Youth Team Manager Dave Porter to bolster his squad and in contrast gave a full debut to 17-year-old Jordan Jones.

The youngster showed good skill on 18 minutes when he got round his man in the box before shooting over.

It had been a lively encounter from the start, Garstang passing the ball well against a powerful Vickerstown team.

Garstang had been dictating play when Bardsley got on the wrong side of Pearson before bringing him to the ground in the penalty box. Howell guessed right when he saved Paterson’s spot kick at the foot of the post.

Jack made a strong run and shot that was comfortably saved then Porter made an important touch from a cross by Jones to keep the score 0 – 0 at the break.

A Stone free kick was well saved by the home keeper then a Chapman effort was deflected for a corner.

Vickerstown’s Miller was perhaps a little lucky only to receive a yellow for what could only be described as an assault on Squirrell.

Edmonds replaced Preston in the 60th minute.

In a spell of Vickerstown pressure a good cross by Pearson was headed over the bar by Keenan then the same player headed over again from a corner.

Edmonds and West picked up bookings as the visitors worked hard to preserve a point. It was building up into a tense climax. Stone and West both had shots blocked before Howell’s magnificent double save.

Bruce was booked for a foul on Squirrell before Garstang wasted a good chance to grab all three points. The ball had been quickly released out of defence to Jones, a good run by the youngster by to the by-line, he pulled the ball back for West who was unable to control his shot that flew over the bar.

Bryson replaced Jones in the 88th minute who laid on another chance for West this time the unfortunate midfielder shot wide.

Whether it was two points lost or a point gained Garstang can be pleased with themselves for a very creditable performance against a very physical and sometimes intimidating team.
