TWO young footballers from Garstang were paraded, along with other Blackburn Rovers junior signees, at the recent Blackburn v Bolton Wanderers Premier League match.
For Myerscough junior players Lewis Wellings and Thomas Speake, both eight, it was the latest celebration to mark them joining the Blackburn Rovers academy.
The first celebration was the weekend before Easter when, along with their parents and other mums and dads of budding football stars to be scouted by Blackburn, they were flown to Barcelona for both a contract signing session, and games against Spanish junior sides Barcelona and Cornella.
The youngsters were thrilled with their reception at Ewood Park and the Barcelona visit, and are now looking forward to the start of the season and three times a week training at Brockholes, near Blackburn.
Lewis, who attends SS Mary and Michael RC School, Bonds, is the son of Mark and Amanda Wellings, of The Parklands, Catterall.
His pal Thomas, who attends St Thomas’s CE School, Garstang, is the son of Mark and Sue Speake, of Pasture Drive, Garstang.
The two dads, both keen soccer fans, are joint managers of the Myerscough under-8s side.
Lewis’s mum, Amanda, said the two boys had been members of the Myerscough side for the past four years.
Lewis plays centre midfield, while Thomas plays on the wing.
They have previously been involved in training sessions with other regional junior soccer academies including Manchester United, Manchester City, Blackpool, Liverpool and Everton.
Amanda said: “Their training at Myerscough has given them a great start in their footballing skills. Both families are delighted.”
n Lewis is not his only family member to be joining Blackburn Rovers’ juniors – his cousin, Patrick Connolly, eight, from Burscough, has also been signed up.
