Garstang Tennis Club hosted its first Junior Summer Shield Round Robin Tournament for U14’s recently – a tournament that was open to junior members of both Garstang and St Michaels Tennis Clubs.

Junior members of St Michaels made up four of the total seven entries that the competition attracted and they did much to enhance the tournament not just by their presence, but also in the way in which they conducted themselves and how they contributed to the good spirit that the tournament was played in.

The competitors were split into two groups of four and three, with Group B playing each other twice to make up the balance of not having four in their Group, and the winners of each group would contest the final. Ellliot Davis-Taylor from St Michaels played very well to win Group A, with Garstang’s Jack Culver winning Group B.

In the final Jack emerged as the winner of the competition beating Elliot by five games to one, with some strong serving and some powerful forehands and was a deserved winner on the day.

The club would also like to take this opportunity to inform any youngsters out there who would like to take up and/or learn the game, that Junior Coaching Sessions are held on Thursday evenings with Greg Porter (Licensed LTA Coach). The sessions last one hour and run from 5.15pm to 8.15pm and anyone interested should contact Greg on 07738 495914.
