Garstang teenager Adam Phillips has said the highlight of his young career so far was being picked to join the Liverpool FC senior squad on their US tour this summer.

Speaking to the official Liverpool FC TV channel LFCTV GO, 16-year-old Phillips said he had “learned so much” from his short time with the first team players.

Phillips only made his senior debut earlier this month during a friendly match against Brondby in Denmark.

He has since made short appearances at Preston North End and against AS Roma.

Phillips first played for Myerscough College before being picked up by Blackburn Rovers.

He joined the Liverpool Academy at the age of 11.

Phillips told LFCTV GO his favourite player growing up was Reds captain Steven Gerrard.

And after making a substitute appearance in a pre-season friendly against AS Roma in Boston last week, his hero gave him a few words of encouragement.

Phillips said: “He talked to me after the game – that was a good moment for me.”

Being picked as the youngest player to go on the Reds’ pre-season US tour was the highlight of the teenager’s fledgling career.

He said: “It’s been a good experience and I have learned so much.

“I was in training when I found out (I was picked) and I had a text from my dad saying I was in the squad.

“I hadn’t been told by anyone, but then in the afternoon Brendan Rodgers (the Liverpool manager) came over and said I was going and I was made up. I was buzzing.

“My hopes and ambitions for the future are now that I keep playing for Liverpool and, hopefully, make a few starts in the Premier League.”
