Fit for Future: Student coaches led a three-day fitness camp for PNEs junior players

Student coaches from Myerscough College showed off their skills when welcoming promising footballers from Preston North End for a series of coaching sessions.

The next generation of Preston players were put through their paces on the pitch during the three-day coaching and fitness camp at the Bilsborrow campus, designed by first and second year FdA football coaching students .

The coaches delivered training for youngsters from the Under nine to Under 16 development squads, gaining valuable practical experience for a future in the football industry.

Former Bolton Wanderers Coach and now Head of the FdA Coaching Programme at Myerscough College, Chris Yiannaki said: “Whilst technical knowledge and understanding is essential for football coaches, it’s the practical, hands-on experience that can make a difference on a CV and help claim that all important first-job once students leave College.

“Every student is given a clear job role at the start of the camp and it’s their responsibility to complete their tasks and make sure these talented young players get the highest quality coaching while they’re here. It’s fantastic for our students to work with such a big name as Preston North End so I must thank the club for putting their trust in Myerscough College.”

The students were responsible for every aspect of organising and delivering the camp, from recording training data and compiling evidence based fitness reports, to the delivery of coaching sessions, and designing and delivering fitness sessions to assess and improve the overall fitness of PNE’s junior players.
