Myerscough College Football Academy is celebrating after three students received international call-ups to represent England.

Seventeen-year-old Rhys Turner, from Ingol, Preston, has received a call-up to the England Schools Under 18s squad after impressing selectors at the national trials held at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre in early December.

Sam Hibbert, 19, from Appleton, Warrington, has been selected for the England Colleges Under 19s squad.

The call-up to represent England comes off the back of a great year for Sam, which has seen him play against Manchester United and Manchester City teams for the Stockport County FC development squad.

His performances against the sides representing the Premier League giants were so impressive that he has progressed to the first team squad of ex-Football League side Stockport County, who now play in top tier of non-League soccer.

Jordyn Fitton, 17, from Radcliffe, Manchester, has received a call-up to the England Colleges Under 17s squad. This is the first time an England Colleges Under 17s side has been selected, which gives Jordyn a great opportunity to make his mark.

All three players will now represent their country at fixtures across the UK and in Europe, including a tour of Italy, and a series of home international against other home nations. Having one player selected for international honours is a privilege for most schools and colleges in the UK, so to have three players chosen, all at different age groups, is an incredible achievement for the Myerscough Football Academy.

Academy boss Phil Brown said: “Firstly, I want to congratulate all three of the lads. They’ve worked hard and put the hours into their training, so they deserve this chance.

“All three are capable of going further, so I anticipate this opportunity to represent their country will be their first of many.

“We work hard on developing all our players at the academy, so to have three lads selected to represent their country is a proud moment. Their selection is testament to the hard work of everyone involved with the academy.”
