A passion for dance and fitness has been the answer for Leah Townsend after losing a job she had loved working at for the past four years.

As gym instructor, personal trainer and class instructor at Longridge’s Kingfisher Gym during that time, she was devastated when it closed at the end of March.

With just two months notice, and her wedding planned for next week on June 8, Leah felt she had to work fast to continue doing something in the same field. She says “I’m not originally from Longridge but, since working over here, I’ve met lots of lovely people. I not only wanted to stay working in the area, but also wanted to make sure that the customers from Kingfisher had somewhere to go to do classes and personal training.”

With fiance James Howard, Leah looked for places closer to the centre, somewhere to hold classes and personal training in one place and found Unit Six, a spacious, airy building in the complex at 90 Berry Lane, and called The Fitness Studio.

After change of use was approved, with hard work, determination and support from family and friends, the unit was transformed into the current studio and opened for business in mid-May.

There is a main studio for classes including zumba, toning, kettlebells, circuit style classes, plus vipr and medicine ball classes which are not held anywhere else locally. There is also a separate spinning studio with star trac bikes and equipment for personal training including a vibration power plate.

Membership at £30 a month includes full use of all the classes or pay-as-you-go, individual classes are £5 per hour, £4.50 for 45 minutes or £3 for 30 minutes.

Personal training and power plate sessions cost extra and there will be a review of classes in July on adding more including pilates and yoga.

Leah can be contacted on 07545759768 or Facebook, on which there is a competition to win a month’s free membership.

Together with Adam Grayston, Leah is one of the two main instructors, Karen Walmsley teaches spinning classes, and James Howard is aiming to become qualified to start up personal training.
