As the snow fell, seven hardy ladies braved the cold to have their first ever training session as Garstang Women’s Rugby Team.
The session was run by John Foster, the RFU Women’s Development officer, who gave his weekend time to get the women up-and running at Hudson Park.
Team manager Helen Rowe, was pleased with the turnout albeit only half a team at this early stage and said: “I thought it was great day and all the girls had fun and all want to come back and get cracking, unfortunately our coach, Anne Green, was unavailable on the day but will be there next Sunday when training starts in earnest every Sunday morning at 10am to 11.30am.”
After the hour and half training session the ladies retired to the warmth of the club house where president Bobby Johnston and chairman Richard Ayers thanked them for attending on this historic day and fed them a hearty lunch, then everyone kicked back to watch the Six Nations on the TV.
New Women team members are: manager Helen Rowe, coach Anne Green, Captain Rachel German, Aoife O’Sullivan, Emma Barton, Kathrine Dawson, Vicki Westhead and Niamh Kerr.
