Garstang made a few changes with Lee Acton, Ainslie Pie and Matt Constant unavailable and Pete Duckworth and Steve Rowbottom out with injury.

Mark Rodgerson, Josh Knowles and Graham Raby all returned to first team action and a first team cap for players man of the match Matt Rawlinson.

Garstang started off at pace and saw a training pitch move came off as Jimmy McLennan went through the gap, drew the last defender, before putting Adam Nickson over the line. McLennan converted, 7-0 Garstang.

Ten minutes later and from the base of another scrum Gavin Barton made the break before throwing the miss pass out to Mark Rodgerson who with plenty left to do stepped his winger and carried the outside centre over the line with him. Conversion missed 12-0.

From the restart Oldham won a scrum and when the referee decided there were too many infringements. Garstang went down to 14 men as John O’Brian received the yellow card.

Two minutes and with the referee calling Ben Kelsall for a word, Garstang switched off and Oldham took the chance with a quick tap penalty and scored unchallenged. Try converted 12-7. Half time.

Dave Miller, Greg Billington and Graeme Raby came on to re-energise the pack for Lawson Whittaker, Danny Gunn and John O’Brian respectively.

Second half saw Garstang camp in Oldham’s territory for the first 30 minutes and with Stuart Dawson pulling the strings, Matt Rawlinson, Jimmy McLennan, Greg Billington and Josh Knowles all went close.

Oldham gained some composure and even a fantastic last ditch tackle by Matt Rawlinson wasn’t enough to keep out there very energetic winger who bounced back up onto his feet and strolled over the line. Conversion missed.

With time running out both teams had chances but neither got within range to take the win.
