After winning her third Stiga 2* Tournament in a row at Manchester on 6th January, Garstang Table Tennis Club player Amy Wells continued her run of good form last weekend at Grantham.

She qualified from her group thanks to two excellent wins before defeat in the knockout to Isabel Ashley. Team mate Kelly Southward also picked up points after beating a much higher ranked opponent.

Sisters Megan and Alice Dillon did even better, both reached the semi-finals of the Under 13 Girls. Unfortunately they drew each other. Megan got the better of Alice winning 3-1 before narrowly losing out to Rebecca Finn from Ireland 3-2 in the final.

In the Lancaster & Morecambe League Premier Division, Garstang A narrowly lost out to Trimpell City 22-19, Luke McGrath claimed two wins, Kelly Southward and brother Stuart picked up one each. The B team still sit next to bottom of the table after a 30-6 defeat to table toppers Trimpell Raptors.

In Division 1, Garstang D still sit in second place in the table thanks to a pre-Christmas win over Ripley Cyclones. The C team are up to fourth place after a 26-13 defeat to top team Ripley Barbarians. Tom Gorst picked up the only singles win, and partnered Joe Peat to victory in the doubles.

In the Preston League Division 1, Garstang B claimed an important 6-4 win over close rivals Riverside B, keeping alive their promotion chances. Adam Soar kept up his impressive run of form to win all three. Rebecca Hodgson and Mike Armishaw added one each, and victory in the doubles completed the win.

In the Premier Division, Garstang A got the new year off to a winning start with a 6-4 win over URCL. Martin Wyatt and Ashley Bradburn winning two each, Graham Coupe added one and partnered Martin to victory in the doubles. This weekend sees the next round of the Butterfly Schools Team Championships with three teams from Garstang Community Academy in action at Blackburn. Victory for any of the teams will take them just one step away from the National Finals at Hinckley.
