Garstang Running Club’s Richard Jones travelled to Worksop for the annual Worksop Half Marathon.
Richard enjoyed a good run to finish within the top 75 in 1.24.54 his fastest time on the course.
The clocks going back symbolised the start of the cross country season with the first fixture at Townley Park, Burnley. Garstang ladies had five ladies out competing with new member Lisa Wells coming home first counter in 80th position with ladies team captain Sheena Cottam in 86th, Amy Fisher 93rd closely followed by Amie McAvoy in 94th and Denise Hughes in 117th. In the men’s race first home was Andy Vause in 81st with Geoff Lyons in 198th and Ben Seed in 242nd.
Despite already running cross country earlier in the day, Amy Fisher and Ben Seed doubled up and less than six hours later tackled the Grizedale Petzl pitch black 20k night run. Joining Amy and Ben who finish in 12th and 13th position were Helen Wilson and Danielle Burrows finished in 10th and 11th position. Also ‘doubling up’ but choosing a 10k hilly course at Accrington the day after the cross country was Denise Hughes who ran well to finish in 56.46 finishing 183rd out of a field of just under 240. Choosing the longer distance race was Tim Warner and Alan Jones at the Ennerdale 25k and 50k race. Tim ran the 50k and finished just inside six hrs 45 with Alan choosing the ‘shorter’ 25k running well to finish 65th position in 2hrs 44.
Two runners made the short journey to Wheelton for the Through the Villages race. First home for the club in 15th position was Andy Vause in 53.11, followed by Gary Heyworth who continues to find his fitness after a short break from racing in 89th out of 286 finishers.
Three of the club’s ladies took part in thescenic Derwentwater 10 miles race. First home was Emma Hewitt with a personal best time of 1.15.42, with mum Mary Hewitt following next in 1.34.18 followed closely by Julia Patefield who continues her return from injury 1.36.09.
