Longridge Hockey Club held a successful annual fun day on Saturday.
The aim of the event was to introduce the sport to those who have never tried hockey and to bring the club membership together to enjoy the sport away from the pressure of league fixtures.
It was felt by the organising committee that both these aims were met, as a great deal of fun and laughter was had as members of the first team joined forces with some of the juniors to take on the 2nd and 3rd team at space hopper hockey and those trying the sport for the first time really enjoyed themselves.
As well as skill sessions and space hopper hockey, there was a raffle, cake stall and a few hockey based competitions, which kept the more competitive element entertained.
The target shoot competition was won by Lauren Hempton, who at 13 is just starting to play for the senior teams and her talents were noted by the 1st team players whom she beat!
The weather was kind earlier on, but it turned a bit wet for the afternoon pre-season fixtures.
Longridge 1st team played Preston 1st team and won 7-1 and Longridge 2nd/3rd team played Blackpool 2nd team and were leading 1-0, but unfortunately couldn’t hang on to their lead and lost the game during the second half. With more pre-season games planned for this weekend, the squads will hopefully be fully prepared for the 2013-14 season, which starts for the 1st team on Saturday, September 21 and for the 2nd and 3rd teams on Saturday, September 28. New players are always welcome at the club and all abilities are catered for so please feel free to go along and give hockey a go.
Senior training takes place on Tuesday evenings, from 6.30pm - 8.30pm on Longridge High School’s astroturf. Junior training also takes place on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm - 7.30pm at the high school and this is open to boys and girls from year three upwards.
