Garstang 1

Pendle 1

Garstang ladies first team played league chasers Pendle at home on Saturday hoping for a turnaround in fortunes after four straight defeats.

Garstang paid the price of a hasty challenge when the umpire signalled for a sponsored five minute rest. SJ came storming out of her goal to make a tremendous interception and powerful clearance kick.

It was just minute before the break however the home side reaped the awards of their efforts, when Roe and Summers combined to make a strong attack on the Pendle goal. Fran’s shot hit the post but the ever present and reliable Lyndsey Hayes placed the ball home.

Both sides made good breaks but Garstang just managing to hold the balance of play. But after 10 minutes played Pendle won a PC and despite Garstang Captain Lyndsey Norton stealing the ball and making a great run, Pendle broke back and the resulting shot left uncleared enough to level the scores.

A further three penalty corners were well blocked by the Pendle defence and Garstang digging deep to find an extra goal. And for a time it looked like it might go the other way but Garstang’s defence made some superb clearances.
