Garstang 2nd 2

Pendle Forest 3

Garstang Ladies were naturally nervous of a team who earlier in the season had beaten them by six goals and were minus three good mid field players.

Nevertheless, Garstang who made the brighter start and despite Pendle’s pressure made the better breaks with some glorious through balls going to Garstang’s two speedy young wingers Liz Suddell and Nicky Charter.

Pendle’s pressure led to penalty corners but Garstang were clearing well with Jess Reid, Nicola Rogerson, Gemma Livesey and Sweeper Jemma Hampson doing the simple things methodically getting the ball away from the danger area. In goal the ‘Mighty Megs’ Ditchfield (Captain) was on form and neatly parried a deflected air shot away at the second corner.

After 18 minutes Garstang’s Helen Mather got the ball right in front of goal and made no mistake putting it neatly home to open the scoring.

Youngsters Jemima Dewhurst and later Lauran Whiteside came on as subs.

Pendle pressure told after 29 minutes and they scored to Megan’s right at a penalty corner to make it 1 -1 and 2 -1 a couple of minutes later. Garstang came roaring back moments later and Liz Suddell scored from a goalmouth scramble.

In the second half, Megan Ditchfield in goal made an outstanding stick save in the air just on her right post and showed why Lancashire and the North U21 sides keep selecting her.

Pendle again scored from a penalty corner to make it 2 – 3.

This was a great team effort by a much improved Garstang 2nd team who now have a credible and speedy attack to add to a solid defence.
