Longridge Ladies 1st 1
Bowdon Ladies 2nd Team 2
Longridge Ladies first team faced their toughest test yet as they travelled to Cheshire to take on top of the league side Bowdon second team at the weekend.
It was always going to be a difficult match for Longridge but they went into the game full of confidence following their back to back wins against Timperley and Wigton.
The visitors made a promising start and put Bowdon under a lot of pressure in the early stages. They combined some excellent build up play from the defence and midfield with dynamic movement up front to create a number of goal scoring opportunities, only to be denied by some impressive saves from the Bowdon goalkeeper.
Longridge were unlucky when a quick break saw Bowdon take the lead. It wasn’t long before Bowdon scored their second of the afternoon in quick succession.
However, Longridge were determined not to give up and came out fighting in the second half. They overwhelmed the Bowdon defence and soon earned themselves a penalty flick. Nicki Wilcox stepped up to the penalty spot and calmly slotted the ball into the corner of the goal to make the score 2-1.
With the prospect of a Longridge comeback a very real possibility, they maintained their pressure on the Bowdon defence and withheld a number of attacks themselves. After successfully defending a succession of short corners, Longridge very nearly equalised following a rapid counter attack but were unfortunate not to find the back of the goal.
Their next match is against Durham University’s second team at Longridge Sports Centre this Saturday, at 1pm.
