Garstang St. Thomas’ Primary School are celebrating after winning the recent Tag Rugby Festival.

The festival held at Hudson Park is an annual event brings together teams from the surrounding primary schools for a Tag Rugby Tournament.

It’s a non-contact version of the game of rugby and both girls and boys got stuck in with over 100 young people taking part in total on the day.

A big thank you must go to L. W. Stewart for sponsoring the event, the Myrescough College students, who volunteered to referee the matches, the teachers for taking part and the weather, which proved to be kind to us on the day.

This festival and the recent Summer Rugby Camp have helped the Garstang junior section to grow this season to over 100 participants on a Sunday morning, something that’s a joy to see.

With ages ranging from under 6 to under 16 year olds, we are hoping to attract more players over the remainder of the season and would welcome girls to come down and have a go; girls can play and rain with boys as part of the same team right up to the age of 14.

If you would like to come down to give Rugby a go, we train on a Sunday morning at 9:30-10:30am.

All you have to do is turn up and ask for one of the coaches! We are a very friendly club with a philosophy that sport should be fun. If you require further details, please contact Bert Cross on 07738648767 or e-mail patchcross2@gmail.com.
