Garstang 1 (2) vs Preston 2 (2)

Garstang Ladies 1s went head to head with Preston Ladies 2s and started poorly and ended the match in the same fashion.

Garstang looked a different side to the week prior and nerves were apparent throughout. Garstang were playing at a pedestrian pace so it was relatively easy for Preston to read and intercept the play. To make matters worse Garstang committed numerous unforced errors.

Preston scored first from a penalty corner. This goal shook some life into the reds and Fran Summers played an intelligent ball up-field to Catherine Godbold who had time and space in the dee to fire home and get Garstang’s first. Vicky Bradley at right back was kept busy with a young left-winger but had a solid second half keeping her at bay. Captain Lindsay Thornhill and Donna Richardson displayed some excellent defending to keep things stable.

After a re-group at half-time Garstang picked up some slight momentum andhad three good open play chances which they failed to convert along with some set pieces which didn’t go to plan. To make matters worse Preston pushed ahead with another converted penalty corner.

Garstang refused to give in and in the dying seconds of the match Lyndsey Hayes picked up the ball in the centre midfield and played Rebecca Worthington in who faultlessly converted to level the scores. Garstang were ecstatic to remain unbeaten and take away a hard earned point.
