Garstang recorded a rare win at Penwortham thanks to a stellar bowling performance and Ian Walling’s five wicket haul.
Garstang avenged their cup final defeat with an 80 run victory over Penwortham in their Palace Shield Premier Division clash.
The visitors asked for first use of the wicket and despite a watchful start, were soon reduced to 28-4 from 18 overs
Jon Thompson notched 29 to anchor the innings together whilst Dave Whalley hit a breezy 21.
Despite these runs, Garstang had slipped to 82-7 before Alex Rawlinson, who smashed 40 not out and Tyler Ibbotson’s fine 27 propelled the visitors to 157-9 from the 45 overs.
And Garstang’s bowlers blitzed through the opposition, in 37 overs, 17 maidens were bowled and only one batsman was allowed to reach double figures.
Dave Jackson showed great determination and desire to stay at the crease and he was the last man out for a dogged 40 out as Penwortham were contained to a total of 77.
The rest of the team were undone by the shear wicket to wicket pace bowling from man-of-the-match I Walling, who bagged five wickets for 25 runs, Gareth Jennings took four scalps and leaked just 31 runs and Ryan Wells grabbed one wicket for five runs in his seven overs.
