Let it Be, Blackpool Grand Theatre

Recreating the magic of The Beatles was never going to be easy but their essence was captured by global success Let It Be at the Grand Theatre.

Hit after hit followed, interspersed with newsreel footage, allowing for costume changes illustrating the period, including Beatlemania at its height. The irony being the Beatles never performed all of their songs to a live audience after they stopped touring but created their diverse catalogue in the studio.

Set changes transformed The Cavern into the Shea Stadium using massive projection backdrops and lighting was used to great effect.

No storyline; the music spoke for itself , the appreciative audience joining in at every opportunity but quiet during the acoustic Blackbird and Here Comes the Sun with Paul (Emanuele Angeletti), George (Paul Manion) and John (Paul Canning). Haunting ballad In My Life, indeed the entire show was dedicated to the memory of George Martin - a poignant touch. Ringo was portrayed excellently by Stuart Wilkinson and Michael Bramwell was the talented synth player in the shadows. Pleading fans won two encores and at the very end the Hey Jude’s na-na-na-naas echoed endlessly round the auditorium up to the very gods. YVONNE FIELDING
