It was all togas and laurel leaves at Ribchester Village Hall on Friday when the Friends of the Ribchester Roman Museum hosted a Roman Food and Wine Evening.

Visitors were given the chance to try an authentic Roman meal which included such delights as spelt bread, Lucanian sausage, Vitellian peas, celery with raisin sauce, dates, Alexandrine and baked dormouse (chicken thighs).

The food was matched by four tastings of modern Italian wines including Prosecco on arrival and Valpolicella. The Hall was suitably decorated in ancient Roman style and the Friends committee bravely dressed in Roman clothes for the event.
