Learn more about our city’s forgotten female football stars at a special talk on the Dick, Kerr Ladies at Preston’s Harris Museum next week.
Author Gail Newsham comes to the Flag Market institution on Wednesday May 8 to chart the unsung history of the world’s most successful female football team.
Dick Kerr Ladies was an all-female football team, formed among workers at a munitions factory, who played so brilliantly that they drew crowds of thousands.
But they fell victim to prejudices of the time, when the Football Association banned them from playing in association grounds, ending their success.
The event, at 6pm, costs £3 or £2 for Friends of the Harris.
Places must be booked in advance on 01772 905414.
