An amazing collection of memorabilia linking Lancashire to the tragic Titanic is due to go on show at Samlesbury Hall.

It is allowing curator and maritime enthusiast Nigel Hampson to display his full Titanic collection.

Included will be silverware, China and textiles as well as models, photographs and documentary films, which will take over three rooms at the historic hall.

In total 96 people from the county perished on board the doomed vessel, including Wallace Hartley who was the ship’s famous band leader from Colne.

A wide selection of fascinating objects from the White Star Line and Titanic’s sister ship the Olympic (identical to those on Titanic) will also be on display.

Sharon Jones, director of Samlesbury Hall, said: “I’m thrilled that the Titanic has rested at the Hall.

“Nigel Hampson (The Titanic curator) is extremely knowledgeable and offers fascinating talks and tours.

“The Titanic has a Lancashire link and Samlesbury Hall, being Lancashire’s Historic House, would be silly not to offer a home to this carefully put together piece of history.

“The interest so far has been fantastic and we look forward to a successful partnership.”

The Titanic will be based at the hall for at least a year and there is no added cost to see this on top of the usual £3 entry fee.

However, Nigel is asking for donations to help him with his exhibition costs.

Nigel said: “I’m delighted to bring the Lancashire Titanic Museum to Samlesbury Hall

“It’s a wonderful building and a great space to hold all the special artefacts in the museum collection.

“We hope we will be able to reach many more people with the story of those 96 Lancashire people who were lost in history’s most infamous sea disaster.

“We have a dedicated and highly-acclaimed lecture programme available for groups and schools and give guided tours of the museum every Sunday and most days through the week”

The collection is open for viewing from Sunday to Friday between 11am and 4pm. Check in advance for occasional Friday closures due to weddings.
