Preston’s own Mastermind, Nick Duffy, turns quizmaster at the city’s New Continental pub – starting tonight!

Duffy, who made it to the semi-finals of the TV superquiz in 2005 and again last year, will pose questions at the South Meadow Lane pub’s new Big Quiz every Monday.

Doors open at 8.30pm and entry is 50p – and you get to test your general knowledge against a man once banned from a quiz in his home city of Newcastle after winning five times in a row.

Duffy first entered
Mastermind in 2005, choosing classic comedy Blackadder as his specialist subject.

In the semi-final, he
answered questions on Neil Gaiman’s Sandman novels and was only narrowly
beaten by the man who
eventually became that year’s champion. Last year, he
entered again, this time
asking people to sponsor him to raise cash for Newcastle -upon-Tyne Hospitals in memory of his brother Peter who died two years before.
