New comedy night could be a regular event if the public is up for a laugh
A curry and a night of laughs – what’s not to like?
Ribby Hall Village is hosting Manford’s Comedy Club this Friday.
The all-star line up includes JoJo Smith, Preston’s Phil Walker and Edinburgh’s Daniel Sloss, with MC Preston funnyman Dan Nightingale.
Organiser Jason Manford, who has pencilled in a second visit on June 6 but will not be performing, says if the nights are a success it may become a regular event.
He said: “Once you get in to North West England, after Liverpool and Manchester, it is very difficult to find good local comedy at an affordable price.
“Situated halfway between Preston and Blackpool we hope that the location of this venue will mean that anyone from those two areas, and all in-between can come along and have a good laugh.
“The great thing about this venue is that it can hold over 300 people which means we really can compete with the big clubs in the main northern cities to make sure that we only bring the best acts to your doorstep.
“We only have two dates so far as an experiment; prove us right and I will keep bringing more and more comedy your way.”
Tickets are just £10 per person and doors open at 7pm. Curries will be served on arrival and also during the interval.
Jason added: “Is it worth paying a tenner for a night out when there’s a chance you could end up sat in uncomfortable awkward silence as some bloke, whose mates told him he was “easily like, the funniest bloke in the office”, attempts to regale you with his tales of drunken hilarity?
“Well there is a circuit of brilliant comics in this country who haven’t been on telly for a number of reasons.
“Maybe they’re up and coming, maybe they were on a late-night stand up show in the 80s and called the host a nobhead, or maybe they just have a severe drinking problem… Either way, there are funny people out there who thrive in the live arena and want to make you laugh on a regular basis, so I’m going to tell you who they are.”
