Queues as Preston coffee-lovers rush to Starbucks for a quick caffeine fix

These were the scenes as queues at the newly re-opened Starbucks drive-through at Preston's Deepdale Retail Park saw traffic backing up on to Blackpool Road.

The chain welcomed customers back to around 150 stores across the country on Thursday.

And the rush for a caffeine fix led to delays on Blackpool Road today (May 16) as cars queued at the drive-through.

It prompted questions online over whether getting a coffee was a good enough reason to go out, with the Government currently urging people to stay at home "as much as possible".

One Twitter user, who works as a community first responder for North West Ambulance Service according to his bio, said: "Huge queue in Preston today for Starbucks, folks we are still in a pandemic crisis we still need to only go out for exercise if necessary please don’t let a coffee be the cause of a second wave."
