No action to be taken against man who detained burglary suspect in Preston, police confirm

A member of the public who detained a burglary suspect in Preston will face no police action.

An intruder wearing a motorcycle helmet smashed the window of a shop in Blackpool Road before forcing his way inside at 2.50am on Tuesday (December 13).

A member of the public living above the business was woken up by the commotion and tackled the man.

He subsequently detained him until officers arrived and arrested the suspect.

Public urged not to approach wanted Preston man who breached his bail conditions

Police said a metal pipe was also found at the scene and seized.

Lancashire Police said the 40-year-old suspect suffered “minor injuries during the incident” and was taken to hospital for treatment.

He was later released from hospital and remained in police custody for questioning on Wednesday (December 14).

The force thanked the member of the public for his help and later confirmed they were “not aware of any further action regarding the man who detained the suspect”.
