Nine-year-old Buckshaw boy to climb 365 walls in a month to raise money for disadvantaged children this Christmas

A kind-hearted boy from Buckshaw is once again fundraising to help disadvantaged children receive Christmas presents.

Last year nine-year-old Kian Devine who attends Euxton Primrose Hill Primary School cycled 150km in a month from Sunday, November 7 every day until Tuesday, December 7, raising £600 which he used to buy less fortunate children Christmas presents. Kian and his proud mother Claire then donated the toys to Father Neil of St. Laurence’s Church in Chorley which provided a welcome addition to their annual appeal. Proving this year is no different, he is getting ready to embark on another mission - this time in the form of scaling great heights as he will be climbing the height of Mount Olympus at Preston Wall climbing Centre, West View Leisure Centre starting this Sunday. He will need to climb 365 walls to complete his challenge.

Kian will once again be donating monies raised to St Laurence's Christmas Toy Appeal. He will also be giving half of the money to The Chestnut Appeal for Men’s Health - a charity that his grandfather Brian is raising money for this year whilst captaining The Fossils Golf Team at St Mellion Golf Club in Cornwall.

Proud mother Claire, 37, who is a teaching assistant at her son's school told the Post that herself and husband Gary have also started doing climbing lessons. She said: "Kian has been taking lessons at Preston Wall Climbing Centre for over a year. He decided he was going to climb the height of 365 climbs in the climbing room as they are eight metres tall. Myself and his father have started doing it with him.

"We had a chat about how he is very lucky as he has got lots of family around him but that lots of children don't have the same or even toys and so he decided to do something to help. He is very active. He does climbing and kickboxing and cycling. He plans to start the indoor climbing challenge this Sunday until before the end of November and will try and do 25 climbs each time and hopes to raise £500 to split between both charities."
