"I don't know what they're thinking" - Preston North End star in the dark about new contract ahead of Middlesbrough clash

The Scot has less than 12 months left on his deal, that expires next summer, and has so far had no word on his future by the club.

Manager Ryan Lowe spoke shortly after the summer transfer window closed about offering players new deals and insisted those contracts would not be considered until at least the new year.

That leaves Lindsay, who has been one of the standout defenders in the division this season, potentially open to offers come the January transfer window.

It is new ground for the 27-year-old and he admits having the stability would be nice.

He said: “I'm just waiting to see what happens, I don't know what they're thinking. I've literally not heard anything. I just let my agent do that and we'll see what happens. I've never been in this situation where it's my last year, it's new to me.

"Stability is always good but it doesn't really matter. I'm playing every week so I'm just so happy that I'm back playing and I'll see where it takes us.”

Lindsay’s form so far this season can be shown with how many man of the match awards he has won, almost sweeping up when it comes to games at Deepdale.

When players win the man of the match award they are also gifted a charitable donation to send wherever they please. Due to the defender’s success, he’s reaping the rewards for his performances and his donations.

He said: “There were some ones where I don't know how I got it, but you take them! I got some free boxers out of it too from the OddBalls Foundation.

“Every team, their home form is where you get up the league. Last season it was very good and we just need to turn that around. I'm sure it will, hopefully it's starting on Saturday.

"That's football, sometimes one chance is all you need and if you don't take it it makes your life more difficult. We've had a good few clean sheets at home, it just hasn't turned into wins. We just have to make sure that happens.”

North End will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday as they host Middlesbrough in the Championship, 3pm.

They have lost three of their last four games and come up against a Boro side with a new boss, as Michael Carrick was appointed head coach this week.

Lindsay is expecting to come up against the new manager bounce.

He said: “That's usually what happens, for every player their position is under threat. They will try a little bit more to impress the manager and try and stay in the team, that's what we need to expect.

"We're looking to spoil the party, especially at home we need the three points and especially to bounce back after the Blackpool game. That's what our eyes will be on.

"We're expecting a tough game as always, you can't look into the league position too much because everyone is capable of beating everyone. A new manager means there will be a positive reaction, I'm assuming. We can only look at them as being a tough opposition.”
