Amy ushers in Dukes doc season

Amy (15) charts the singer’s story from her childhood in London to her death in 2011.

Another musician – Wilko Johnson – is the subject of the second DukesDoc on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Ecstasy of Wilko Johnson (15) is an intimate look at the life of the former Dr Feelgood guitarist, who embarked on a farewell tour after being given just months to live.

A tribute is paid to the planet’s beauty is made in the powerful documentary The Salt Of The Earth (12A), which is screened from August 14-18 (except August 16).

It explores the life of photographer Sebastião Salgado who has travelled the world for more than 40 years.

The story of the Greenpeace movement’s earliest years is told in How To Change The World on September 9 which features rare, unseen footage, private journals and interviews. This will be followed by a question and answer panel screening including the film’s director, Vivienne Westwood and other special guests.

Another DukesDoc rich in archive film is Generation Right (cert tbc) on September 16 which explores Margaret Thatcher’s legacy.

Cartel Land (cert tbc) is the finale of the late summer DukesDoc season on September 28 and 30, a look at the drug trade on both sides of the American-Mexican border.
