Classic day for bike fans

The Vintage Motorcycle Club North West Section takes over the King Street museum for the day with members from far and wide bringing fabulous vintage gems to display to the public.

And, as well as showing off their pride and joys, the bikers usually join together for a mass rally through the town – which should be a spectacular sight as the sun shines.

The event always attracts a lerge spectrum of both  viewers and exhibitors, the latter of whom bring some fascinating specimens.

Although many owners are expected to bring vintage makes and models whose names will be familiar, such as Nortons or BSAs, some possess bikes so rare that even the maker’s names have faded from general knowledge: “Vintage motorcycles can date from any time from the early 1900s.

“But we get some really old British bikes – so old that you wouldn’t necessarily recognise the makers name anymore.”

And the Morgan Club also shows up for the day, holding a small rally of its vintage sports cars outside on the museum’s car park.

It all makes for the  perfect day out for motoring and engineering enthusiasts or for any petrolhead dads and their children. And the bikes on show complement the already wide range of  vehicles on permanent display inside the museum itself.

Anyone who brings a motorcycle to display will be allowed a free day pass into the museum which houses a fantastic collection, including traction engines, GPO vans, sectionalised truck engines and gearboxes.
