Curious dance for all

The Cabinet of Curiosities features performances by La Petite Mort Theatre and TurnAround Dance Theatre.

La Petite Mort’s latest work combines video, time lapse and original music with the talents of six dancers taking the audience on a playful journey through a long summer’s day from first light until twilight.

In the second half, Turnaround Dance Theatre, set up by sisters Ellen, Grace and Lily Turner, perform Love Life which looks at love and its many facets through dance, text, digital technology and participation.

The Dukes youth theatre opens its doors for the new term on September 21 and there are places up for grabs.

Over the past few years the youth theatre, based in The Dukes Centre for Creative Learning, has been a training ground for young people looking to make their careers in theatre.

Former Dukes youth theatre member Daisy Whalley recently saw her name in lights as she toured in Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory’s Romeo and Juliet as leading lady Juliet.

The Dukes was also where Coronation Street actress Cherylee Houston to hone her skills.

During her time in the group she appeared in several shows in Williamson Park a tradition still thriving, with members of The Dukes Young Actors appearing as Fagin’s Gang in this year’s outdoor production of Oliver Twist.

Budding musicians are also welcome along to the music group on Thursday nights.
