Phil showcases Preston chap
Join the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in Preston on Sunday afternoon for one of the richest, darkest, most heartbreakingly beautiful journeys in all romantic music – in the company of the city’s own principal horn player Timothy Jackson.
Elgar’s second symphony is regarded by some as the finest ever written by an Englishman and conductor Vasily Petrenko leads the RLPO, who will also perform rarely-heard gems by two of Elgar’s greatest European admirers – the little interlude Mahler dropped from his own First Symphony, and Richard Strauss’s bubbly mock-Mozart tongue-twister of a Second Horn Concerto.
It’s a showcase for Preston-based musician Jackson.
