Remember Right Royal visit

In 1813, the king and queen travelled by car throughout industrial Lancashire visiting nearly 40 towns and cities.

Kicking off the 2013 anniversary celebrations will be ‘Mill Model Making’. Here you can make your own version of our Horrockses mill model and add some decorations. There is also chance to see and hold some of the commemorative items that were made for the visit in the Ceramics and Glass gallery.

In celebration of the Royal visit, Preston was decorated with plenty of bunting. Create some of your own with tips from artist Shennan Wilkinson from 11am on the second floor balcony.

You can also have a go at soap carving after taking inspiration from our king and queen soaps. Find them in the Fine Art Gallery from 11am until 3pm.

To top off the celebrations, don’t miss ‘Will Onda’, the man who filmed the royal visit, at 1pm. His film, ‘A Right Royal Tour of Lancashire’ is a compilation of clips from local newsreels of the visit over an eight day period in July 1913.

The world premiere of the film will be screened on Monday, July 8 at 2pm and 7pm, tickets cost £5.

Finally, the Harris will host a lecture by our Curator of History, Emma Heslewood at 6pm on Wednesday. Emma will be exploring the background and events of the tour. Tickets are just £3.
