Secret’s out for Weekend

Secret Affair are revving up their scooters and polishing up their wing mirrors ahead of the Ribble Valley Mod Weekender, where they will be the headline act.

Clitheroe’s Grand Theatre is the focal point for the popular three-day festival, with a host of bands plus DJs playing at the York Street venue on Saturday, September 27.

The line-up includes tribute band The Jam Collective and The Shade, but Secret Affair’s first visit to the town will provide the big draw for a weekend of mod mayhem.

Secret Affair, who rode the new wave of the Mod revival in 1979, enjoyed hits with Let Your Heart Dance, My World, Sound of Confusion and Time For Action, their debut single and biggest chart success.

“It is a real coup for the Mod Weekender having Secret Affair here,” said organiser Stephen Porter.

“Ian Page’s band were at the heart of it and are an iconic band. They are brilliant live and fit the bill perfectly.”

Following the success of last year’s sold out Mod and Soul Weekender, Porter is aiming for a broader themed event, with venues across Clitheroe getting involved.

He said: “There will be bands and DJs at the Rose & Crown, The Buck Inn, Key Street, The Castle, and The White Horse. The whole town has embraced the festival.

“Last year was brilliant, with enthusiasts from Newcastle, Birmingham and London – a couple flew over from Toronto for the weekend.

“A scooter parade through town brought Clitheroe to a standstill. It was great to see day trippers enjoy the event and we had a lot of positive feedback.”

Previous acts have included The Lambrettas, DC Fontana and Missing Andy.

Porter added: “A festival brings so much to a town and the Mod Weekender is getting bigger every year now. We really appreciate the whole of Clitheroe getting involved.”
