Spicely done, if lacking that final zing

When you are feeling a bit under the weather, a nice spicy dish can be just what the doctor ordered.

That was why when looking for a takeaway, we abandoned our original plan owing to my wife’s cold and plumped for Adlington Spice.

This small unassuming business sits in Market Street in Adlington near Chorley and seems to have a great following on the web.

Ordering our food via Just Eat, we opted to collect our order, but the takeaway does deliver to a fairly wide area.

Our food was almost ready and was actually being finished off as we arrived to collect it at the allotted time.

You can’t get any fresher than that. Having spent more than £10 we also gained a free starter of onion bhaji thrown in.

The smell of food in the car was torture as we drove home, so it was seconds after we stopped before the bhajis and our chosen starter, Lamb Chops (£3.20) were attacked.

The chops were an ideal appetiser and carried a wonderful spicy coating. Both dishes came with salad and a dip for the bhajis.

After a break, it was onto the mains.

I ordered the Balti Exotica (£5.95), and my wife the Saag Special (£5.50). We find nowadays that one portion of rice is often enough between us, so boiled rice at £1.50 completed the meal.

My Balti was a nice combination of chicken and lamb tikka and king prawn.

It was beautfilly cooked and fresh and although described as medium hot tasted mild to my palate. The Saag was much the same – nicely cooked, fresh and clean-tasting and loaded with vegetables but lacking the final zing.

At £16.50 for the lot it was very reasonable.

Having been impressed with the standard, we will probably return for another go – maybe opting for a hotter dish next time!
