Award winning screenwriter visits Preston

Award winning screenwriter and author Frank Cottrell-Boyce will visit Preston Thursday as part of UCLan’s Great Northern Creative Festival.

Cottrell-Boyce, who took part in the mammoth World Book Day event at Preston’s Deepdale in March, will launch the four-day festival with a Q&A session in the Darwin Lecture Theatre in Marsh Lane on Wednesday.

Currently enjoying success with his latest book for youngsters ‘The Astounding Broccoli Boy’, Cottrell-Boyce has previously worked on Doctor Who, Coronation Street, the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 
Olympics and hit Colin Firth film The Railway Man.

An ‘Audience with Frank Cottrell-Boyce’ will take place 3:30pm-4:30pm and will be followed by a screening of the 2002 film 24 Hour Party People, for which Cottrell-Boyce wrote the screenplay.

He said: “I’m delighted to support this year’s UCLan Student Creative Festival to offer support and advice to its creative students.

“Events like this are vital to help young creative people have a voice and motivate them to get out there and have a future in the creative industry.”
