Queen’s Greatest Hits are served up at Preston Charter Theatre on Saturday night by Magic – one of the first, and still rated one of the best – of several tribute bands dedicated to capturing the sound of one of the greatest live rock acts.

Magic perform all of Queen’s greatest hits plus some less familiar tracks using five vocals to back up the powerful lead of Roger Brown.

Along with two guitars, bass, drums and the keyboard skills of Dave Chapman they aim to produce all the excitement of a Queen live show. Birmingham Royal Ballet brings new production Aladdin to the Lowry in Salford next week, prior to its London premiere.

Created for the National Ballet of Japan in 2008, the choreography is by BRB director David Bintley, and music by BAFTA award-winning Carl Davis.

Bintley’s Aladdin adds another full-length ballet to his career and history of dance making.

Full length ballets choreographed by the award-winning director include Hobson’s Choice, Edward II, Far from the Madding Crowd, Cinderella and The Prince of the Pagodas which will receive its UK premiere at Birmingham Hippodrome as part of the Britten Centenary Celebrations next February.

Every performance of Aladdin features more than half the company, approximately 45 dancers, performing an incredible 110 different roles between them! It runs from Wednesday to Saturday with matinees Thursday and Saturday.

Not one but two inductees of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame turn up at Morecambe Platform on Sunday night.

Steve Cropper of Booker T and the MGs and John Steel of The Animals will be performing at the venue.

The Animals were the second British band to top the American charts after the Beatles with the multi-million selling and legendary anthem, House of the Rising Sun. So expect Animals and Stax classics like We Gotta Get Out of This Place, Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, Boom Boom (featured in the Bond movie, Skyfall) and classic Stax hits Green Onions, Dock of the Bay, Midnight Hour and Knock on Wood. The owl who’s afraid of the dark flies in to Morecambe the Platform next Friday.

The classic children’s story by Jill Tomlinson centres on Plop, the baby barn owl as he journeys into the night-time world of camp fires, fireworks, starry nights and moonlit adventures.

This funny, gentle and reassuring tale is written especially for those aged three to seven (and grown ups who sleep with the big light on!) Blunderbus Theatre Company will be bringing the story to life with music, puppetry and story telling at morning and afternoon performances.
