Hansel and Gretel will lay their last trail of crumbs through the woods of Lancaster’s Williamson Park this week as The Dukes walkbout season comes to an end.

Saturday (August 16) sees the final performance of Hansel & Gretel And More Tales From The Forest, one of the best-received productions in the outdoor theatre series’ 27-year history.

Earlier this summer the Lancaster theatre sold its 500,000th walkabout ticket, a remarkable milestone.

Written by Ulverston’s 
Zosia Wand, the 2014 production not only features Hansel & Gretel but also many other fairytale characters with a vegetarian wolf and tricycling frog becoming firm favourites with audiences. Together with original music, fantastic costumes and five striking locations, this year’s show has been described as one of the best yet by theatregoers.

The fun is set to continue next year when The Dukes presents its own adaptation of the popular Dickens story – 
Oliver Twist.

Booking has already opened for the 2015 park show which will be written by Debbie Oates, whose adaptations of Treasure Island and A Christmas Carol for The Dukes in 2012 and 2013 proved a hit with audiences.
