Swish country hotel to get a major upgrade

A company owned by Euro Garages brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa has announced plans to redevelop and extend the swish Stanley House Hotel and Spa.

Subject to planning permission the wedding venue, off Preston New Road in Mellor, is to be given a new spa and leisure complex, a banqueting hall, a new three-storey bedroom block and a new-look entrance and restaurant.

The car park will also be increased in size from 195 spaces to 400.

The plans have been submitted to Ribble Valley Council by Monte Leisure - a subsidiary of parent company Euro Garages Ltd - which took over the Grade II* Listed hotel in 2020.

A planning statement lodged with the council says: “Stanley House has a long and chequered history, much of which has been saved following the extensive restoration project undertaken by the site’s former owners, the Walker family, in 2003/4.”

A major redevelopment and expansion plan, in consultation with English Heritage, was given the go-ahead by councillors in 2008 and was partly implemented in 2010.

The plans submitted just before Christmas are a continuation of that original scheme.

They also include an improvement of the private entrance road up to the hotel.
