Could electric bikes be the answer to Preston's traffic problems?
The eco-friendly alternative to cars went on view in Avenham Park at the weekend as part of a national initiative for greener transport. And manufacturers believe they could ease jams which build up around rush hour and busy shopping periods.
“The idea is to promote a greener commute,” said Tim Noy, a director of Leisure Lakes Bikes who recently opened a new bike hub at the city’s railway station.

Two of the largest manufacturers of electric bikes were in Preston to give visitors the chance to test ride the machines on a 15-minute loop around the park.
The Green Commute Initiative is part of a Government plan which offers riders up to 42 per cent discount on electric bikes.
