The Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show, which attracts thousands of visitors, is scheduled to take place on July 30, 31 and August 1 at its Salesbury Hall ground in Ribchester, near Preston

Chairman Colin Mustoe said: "We took the decision to go ahead now Boris (Johnson) says we'll be back to relative normality around six weeks before our show starts. Quite honestly we think it's a contribution to our getting back to normality and a lot of people depend on these shows for their income."

He said their last show attracted some 10 -15,000 visitors and said: "We're hoping the show will be same size as the last. We're booking attractions on the basis should Government recommendations prevent this show from being able to take place then we are able to cancel without charge. We don't want to jeopardise the finances of the society. But I believe it will go on ... it's full steam ahead."

He said attractions booked so far include a medaeval style jousting team and a Shetland ponies Grand prix. He continued: "There's a whole variety of things ... shires, showjumping, a children's village and a lot of animals, cattle, sheep, poultry and rabbits. One big attraction is the celebrity cooking when a lot of the local chefs give their time and give demonstrations during the three days."

Mr Mustoe added: "I very much hope the people of Lancashire and beyond will respond in a very positive way."

The show organisers have issued a statement saying: "Plans are in place to ensure exhibitor and visitor safety whilst offering a comprehensive programme of entertainment suitable for all."
