Kirkland and Catterall St Helen’s Church of England Primary School, near Garstang, wanted to surprise its pupils when they arrived at the school gates on Tuesday morning so, naturally, staff booked a 17 foot long T-rex.
Although the pupils were told to dress up as explorers for the day, little did they know that they would be greeted by a giant T-rex, the Jurassic Park gates and some hatching dinosaur eggs.
Headteacher Andrew Scholz said: “We told the children we were having a special ‘explorers day’ in school and that they should dress in outdoor explorer clothing.
“What they didn’t know is that we booked a 17ft long T-rex, some baby dinosaurs hatching from eggs and the gates from Jurassic park.”
Instead of entering the school gates, pupils entered Jurassic park for the day.
“We wanted to do something fun to mark the start of our new school topic for the summer term,” said headteacher Andrew Scholz.
“We also thought it would be a fun treat after the monotony of lockdown learning.”
During the summer school term, the children will start to learn about a new topic, ‘paws, jaws and claws’, and teachers wanted to make it extra special.
The new topic will see the pupils learning all about large creatures, like the T-rex.
Children across Preston and Lancashire have been back at school for over a month now after long periods of school closures due to COVID-19.
This means they can finally take part in interactive lessons including science and PE, instead of learning remotely from their computer screens.
Children can also see their friends during lunch breaks and in the school playground once again.
