IT is the workout hooking the gym-goers of Garstang, and now zumba instructor Louise Ayre is turning her feet to the more mature members of the community to make sure they don’t miss out.

Dance graduate and zumba trainer Louise, 25, from Catterall has recently launched Zumba Gold, a low impact version of the incredibly popular zumba programme targeted for the members of the public who are over 50.

She says as well as encouraging an older audience to give it a go, the classes are also attracting people new to exercise and those looking for variety in their work out routines.

Louise has been holding sessions every Wednesday at Vitality in Dimples Lane, says: “Traditional zumba is high impact, very fast and you don’t get a lot of time to work on steps.

“Some people try and enjoy it but get put off with the fact they can’t keep up. Zumba Gold is the alternative – it has all the fun and vibrancy, but with more time to learn the steps.”

The former Garstang High School pupil began dancing ballet at the age three and her love for the arts led her to study a degree in dance, drama and physical theatre at Edge Hill University.

She was first introduced to zumba by a friend, and inspired by her passion for dance undertook her instructor training in January.

Since then she has being teaching up to 12 sessions a week across Wyre and recently returned to her former school to introduce pupils to the world of zumba.

Exercising up to 15 times a week and running a business is hard work, but Louise says it is not just a job but an addiction.

“It’s brilliant. When I first started I was self conscious and so nervous, but classes have just grown and grown. You leave your insecurities at the door and just go for it,” she said,.

“People come back week after week to work out, but it’s great to have such a laugh with it. I love it.”

Class member Sarah Ball said: “I come to Louise’s classes three times a week, which is a great cardio workout but now also use Zumba Gold, which is great for toning, whilst having fun.

“It is for alI ages and I can definitely feel the benefits the next day.”
