Can you help school solve badge mystery?

Calder Vale St John’s CE Primary School is celebrating its 150th birthday this year – and it wants past pupils and staff to join the celebrations.

As well as joining in a Victorian themed sports day, visiting the school on special open days, enjoying a traditional afternoon tea or hog roast, the school also has a mystery to solve.

Headteacher Holly Husset said: “The children have been busy contacting previous pupils and staff in order to invite them to contribute memories and artefacts for a school display.

“Many pictures, memories and other artefacts have come in to school.

“But the most intriguing so far is a picture of an old school badge that is supposedly from the school.

“The children have looked through dozens of photographs trying to find the badge on a uniform, but so far no luck.

“They have asked older members of the community who attended the school and they don’t remember it either.

“We wondered if any readers would be able to help us date the badge.”

The pupils have translated the motto as:“Dare to be True”.

Anyone with connections to the school is invited to attend a special hog roast on Saturday, July 13, at 2pm, (tickets available from school at £5 a person) and a church service at Calder Vale church on Sunday July 14, at 10am followed by tea and cakes in the Old Vicarage at 11am.

Even if you cannot attend the celebration week events the school is asking for memories to be shared either by post or email to bursar@ caldervale.lancs.sch.uk.

As much information as possible will also be posted on the school website, which can be found at www.caldervale.lancs.sch.uk
