Conductor Doyle in Manchester Chamber Choir’s tribute concert

Manchester Chamber Choir regularly appears on BBC Radio 4’s Daily Service and Sunday Worship. They have also appeared on Radio 2’s Sunday Half Hour, Radio 5 Live and BBC Television’s Songs of Praise. The choir was created by singers for singers and all members share the desire to perform choral music to the highest standard.

Six talented playwrights bring England’s North West and South West together as Box of Tricks Theatre launches the first cross-regional tour of Word:Play at the Octagon in Bolton, then touring regionally from March 2-27 – including a Preston date.

Six playwrights, three from each region, have been set the task of writing a 15 minute play inspired by the word ‘division’. Bringing together these two regions of England, and featuring an ensemble cast of four, these experimental works concern issues from identity and loss to relationships and the class divide.

The Lowry in Salford gives families an opportunity to travel back in time as Horrible Histories go on the Two of Terry Deary’s award-winning books, Terrible Tudors and Vile Victorians, will be brought to life on stage. Both use actors and special effects to take the audience back to the rule of those hideous Henrys of the 16th century, or through the misery of the mines and filth of the factories in the 1800s.

The “Sherpa of stand-up” (according to fellow comedian Stewart Lee) Tony Law brings his comedy tour to the region next week.

Other Voices is a programme of new drama, music and arts events presented at Manchester’s Three Minute Theatre throughout International Women’s Week from March 3-10.

There are also five new plays, including the comedy Rucking Fantastic detailing the lives of a Manchester Women’s Rugby Team, Asylum of Grace, a true story of domestic coercion in the 1980s, I’m Your Man, a tale of love and sexual identity and two experimental plays, Release and Surrender and Unbearable Weight.

This year’s Flying Solo festival at Manchester’s Contact Theatre features six free performances from March 4 to 9.
