No hedging their bets at college
THERE was no hedging round the issue when Myerscough College played host to competitors showing off one of the ancient arts of farming.
A total of 25 competitors from across the north west arrived at Lee Farm, on Saturday, as part of the annual Lancashire and Westmorland Style Hedge Laying Grand Prix.
Craig Thompson, head of agriculture at Myerscough, said: “The hedge has to be laid in the Lancashire and Westmorland style, which is designed for the region, primarily to keep sheep in.
“It is quite a skill keeping hedges dense and bushy.”
The day also helps promote the traditional management of hedgerows with workshops giving visitors a chance to have a go at the skill.
