Chorley Council, like all other local authorities up and down the country, has been forced to cancel popular public events because of the coronavirus crisis.

One of its latest attractions to fall victim to the pandemic was its popular What’s Your Story, Chorley? event on March 28.

But plans are already being discussed for celebrations when the coronavirus is behind us.

Ideas are ranging from street parties to a huge festival

Councillor Alistair Bradley, leader of Chorley Council, said: “We, like most people are looking forward to a time when we can share fun times again.

“We’re seeing an appetite for an event from local traders, businesses and residents who have plenty of ideas.

“We’ve also been asking residents via social media what type of event they would like to see when current circumstances allow.

“There have been many suggestions so far, from street parties to huge festivals in Astley Park or in our town centre and we will work with all parties when the time is right to create a fantastic event for everyone, to bring our communities back together.”

The council is inviting suggestions on how we can celebrate post-coronavirus. Visit its Facebook page to take part.

Meanwhile, neighbouring South Ribble Council is planning to devote the Christmas switch-on to NHS heroes.
