Open gardens days and weekend have proved exceptionally popular this summer so far.
Hundreds flocked to the fourth Whitechapel St James’ Church open weekend with its 10 gardens varying in size, visitors enjoying home made refreshments while plant and book stalls were kept busy and £5,300 was raised for the church and churchyard.
Similar attractions and lovely gardens also drew hundreds to the five Brookvale open gardens in Garstang with saw 178 people attending on day one and 241 visited on the Sunday. BBC Radio Lancashire broadcast live from the gardens on the Sunday, the event raising more than £3,000 for several cancer charities.
It was a first-ever open day for Dutton Hall owners Andrew and Catherine Penny as the many visitors enjoyed specialist roses, a Plant Heritage stall, cream teas and music in the lovely Ribchester setting, and £1,140 was raised for Plant Heritage and the gardens.
