Pianist Martin Roscoe gives a special recital next week to showcase the new Lancashire venue for his renowned Ribble Valley International Piano Week - and to reveal a star line-up for this summer’s event.
Martin, one of the UK’s finest pianists, founded the festival 24 years ago and it has since become a major musical event, drawing its audience from far and wide and attracting top international performers to Lancashire.
His recital on Wednesday, March 16, previews the festival’s new, larger venue - The Westholme Theatre, Westholme School, Meins Road, in the rural outskirts of Blackburn - and includes Schumann’s Kinderszenen, Beethoven’s Appassionata sonata and works by Liszt. It starts at 7.30pm.
Martin will also reveal the programme and virtuoso artists booked to appear at the theatre for this year’s Ribble Valley International Piano Week from July 10- 16. Advance tickets will also be on sale.
Festival chairman Ian Longworth said: “As usual our artistic directors Martin Roscoe and Mike George have come up with a fantastic week of concerts and we have a truly inspiring and exciting week in prospect.
“Audience numbers have increased year on year as word has spread about the consistently high calibre of the music and musicians, and this move to a much larger venue will allow more people to come and share these fabulous concerts with us.
“Our new venue has state-of-the-art facilities and is easy to travel to and we extend a very warm welcome to Piano Week regulars and newcomers alike, who we hope will join us on Wednesday evening to hear Martin’s recital and find out about this summer’s festival for themselves.”
