The village of Hambleton celebrated its “best ever gala” on Saturday, with brilliant sunshine and huge crowds.

A delighted gala chairman Paula Turner said: “The gala field was absolutely full. We couldn’t fit any more on.”

The village’s streets were lined with spectators for the procession of floats and fancy dress entrants, which included visiting queens from other Wyre and Fylde Coast communities.

New gala queen Kaitlin Bavidge was crowned by the retiring queen, Charlotte Conley.

The Mayor of Wyre, Coun David Bannister, was the opener for this year’s gala.

Entertainment was provided by Danceworks, a local Taekwando group and two local singers arranged by Hambleton-based BXE Records, which is run by village entrepreneur Gaz Coward.

Main parade winners were: Individual fancy dress, Dr Who; under fives, Hambleton U-5s Playgroup; best queen on a float, Preesall; best walking queen, Bispham.
